Dhimmis & Dhimmitude:-
The word Dhimmi means Protected/Safeguarded/Immune/Secure.
Ahl al Dhimma or Ahl al Kitab were primarily the Jews and Christians. They were to 'enjoy the protection' of the Muhammadans; they would have no military duties but had to pay a heavy tribute, the Jizya.
Since the Muhammadan Muslims were the ones in total control of all the conquered and occupied lands in which both the Jews and Christians were natives, the question to be asked is from whom and from what were the Muhammadans 'protecting' them?
The obvious answer could only be from the Muhammadan mobs themselves.
Under 'Islamic' law, no Jew or Christian (Dhimmi) could give testimony against a Muhammadan because - according to their interpretations of the following verses,
5:16/18 - they allege that the Jews and Christians had corrupted the texts of their scriptures and hence cannot possibly be trusted to be truthful.
9: 29 Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His apostle, nor acknowledge the religion of truth (even if they are) of the People of the Book until they pay the Jizya with willing submission and feel themselves humiliated.
Based upon the above verse - as well as others more - the Muhammadans promulgated 'laws' and rules made specifically to insult, humiliate, denigrate, offend and
de-humanise both the Christians and Jews under their alleged 'protection'.
The following are the terms IMPOSED upon the Jews & Christians in the Charter of Umar II-
1 All Dhimmis had to pay a very onerous Jizzya/Polltax which aws a very important source of income to the imperialist Arabs.
2 They were required to wear distinctive, unflattering and humiliating dress to distinguish them from the pious 'muslims' and hence have them subjected to redicule and insults.
3 Dhimmis were denied access to public baths and other public spaces because they are inferior and unclean beings
4 They were not greeted with the civility that Muhammadans did for each other
5 They had to keep to the opposite side of the street where Muhammadans were walking
6 They were invariably assigned distasteful duties such as removing dead animals or cleaning public toilets
7 They were not allowed to practice their faith openly
8 They were forbidden from displaying their joy and grief in public
9 They were forbidden to build any dwelling equal to or higher than that of a Muhammadan
10 No churches were to ring bells or disply crosses
11 Churches and Synagogues were arely respected and were burned or demolished at will. New churches or synagogues were not allowed to be built.
12 They were invariably subjected to massacres for whatever political or theological reason deemed useful to the leaders at the time
13 They were not accepted as witnesses or able to defend themselves under Sharia 'law'
14 Their word against that of a Muhammadan carried no eight whatsoever
15 In many recorded historical instances, they were subjected to mass murder or mass conversion, both contrary to the Quranic injunction not to do so:
2:256 Let there be no compulsion in religion. Truth stands out clear from error; whoever rejects evil and believes in Allah hath grasped the most trustworthy hand-hold that never breaks. And Allah heareth and knoweth all things
16 Male children of the dhimmis were taken from their parents to convert them as well as to use them as mercenary troops for the service of the Caliph as in the (Janissaries)
17 A Muhammadan murderer of any unbeliever would never carry a death penalty but only a small monetary compensation, if that.
The accumulated effects of all the above forced many Christians especially - who were the majority in the early stages of the Arab conquests - to become despised and cowering minorities in their own lands and consequently were forced to convert to escape these humiliations.
So much for Muhammadan 'protection' and decency.
H.E.W. Young, British Vice Consul in Mosul, wrote in 1909:
The attitude of the Muslims toward the Christians and the Jews is that of a master towards slaves, whom he treats with a certain lordly tolerance so long as they keep their place. Any sign of pretension to equality is promptly repressed.
*** It is INCOMPREHENSIBLE knowing all the facts, that many so called EXPERTS in the West believe that Muhammadan Islam can exist DEMOCRATICALLY.
It CANNOT as long as it applies SHARIA' Laws, which is almost invariably the case in most Muhammadan states.
Muhammadan Islam cannot tolerate DEMOCRACY since that automatically allows all so called UNBELIEVERS equal rights under the law, which is IMPOSSIBLE under Sharia' law.
